Fascinating back-and-forth essay between two opposing viewpoints, of what I believe are the author’s own opinions. I understand and share both outlooks about my own Western society. Nice work, Alan! Definitely worth a reread from time to time!
I typically amalgamate people, experiences, and imagination into different positions, before I have them interacting with one another. The 'I' here is closest to my naive as well as essential viewpoint on things,
while 'it' comes into existence when people start guessing, "Is it him? Her? Young? Old? Pretty? Alien? Specifically whom? … Stereotypes?"
Actually, all the above, some, and none. Also all resemblance is coincidental, blah blah.
