4X starts with shoestring resources, and so holds valuable lessons for training solo-prise. When you can only check out your surroundings a little at a time, build only one's basic tools, and settle new places with little free choice, it makes you excellent at making do with bare essentials.

This informs me throughout the rest of my later and ultimate approach to big and small actions in my works.
